Tohato Inc. is a popular Japanese snack maker. The original name, “Tokyo Confectionery,” was too common and changed to “Hato Brand Tokyo Confectionery” after the first president’s favorite bird, the pigeon. Wholesalers abbreviated the name to “Hatoto” and“Tohato”to save on fees because of the lengthy name.“Tohato”had a nice ring to it and was later officially adopted as the new company name.
