Our founder, Shota Saraya, was born in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture, where his family had been engaged in forestry for generations. Kumano is the root of Japan’s ancient religion and worldview, and is the original homeland of Japan, where ancient nature still thrives. Our founder grew up catching sweetfish, eels, and river shrimp in the clear streams deep in the mountains of Kumano, and was nurtured by the bounty of nature.
His parents’ deep attachment to the mountains at that time, and memories of the rivers and mountains of Kumano where he spent his childhood, remain deep in his heart, and he worked to develop environmentally friendly products without ever forgetting this view of nature and life. This is regarded as the origin of Saraya’s business, and is still firmly passed down as the company’s DNA.
